Thanks for your offer of help. I do have copies of the 1870 and 1880 Marshall County censuses: although Ellen is shown on both at about the correct ages (along with a son shown as Andrew J - not Jackson - also of the right ages), there is nothing there to 'show' or 'verify' that this IS indeed the same Ellen and son as shown with James Cloud on the 1860 Livingston County census.

I'm looking for ANY information that will definitely show that James is indeed the father of Andrew, Joshua, and their siblings. Additionally, IF this is shown to be factual, I'd like to learn what happened to James. Why isn't he shown with the young family in Gilbertsville in 1870? Did he 'run away' (one family story)? Or did he perhaps 'go out hunting or whatever and get killed and not be able to return'? Or was there a divorce we can't find? Any ideas?

Also, once we can establish that James IS indeed the father, I'd like to know if there is a record of his marriage in Livingston County to 'Ellen' so that I can finally learn her maiden name. The search goes on and on.
