I am researching the Joseph Rutherford Family of this era
who was the son of John Rutherford Sr and Violetta Reynolds
formerly of Essex Co but were early migrants to Kentucky during this time. Here is a bit of what I have found:
The 200 acre tract of land entered by Joseph Rutherford in Lincoln County Kentucky, 10 November 1781, was in close proximity to the present town of Stanford, Kentucky, and adjacent to the land of John Logan and Boughman's Trace, the main road leading from Logan's Fort to Col. William Whitley's. On 20 November 1781 Joseph Rutherford also entered a tract of 100 acres of land on Cooks Branch in Lincoln County but in less than ten years he had moved to Franklin County, Kentucky. In a conveyance dated 27 October 1799 he sold land located on Dicks River below Bofman's Station in Lincoln County and designated he was then living in Franklin County, Kentucky.
In 1782 he was a member of Capt. Boyle's Company of militia called into service on the frontiers from Carpenter's Bridge & Estell's Station under the orders of Col. Benjamin Logan.
According to the list of Virginia Tax Payers & Slave Holders 1782-1787 Joseph Rutherford's name appears
in Lincoln County and indicates he did not have any slaves.
Joseph Rutherford was appointed in June 1789 to view a road and was appointed surveyor of the road from Jone's lower ford on Dicks River to Baylor's Mill in Lincoln County in September 1789.
His son, William Larkin Rutherford, Sr. married Mrs. Margaret Hamilton, July 6, 1790 in Lincoln Co. KY.
Joseph Rutherford signed the marriage bond and Larkin Ramsey signed the marriage consent.
Joseph Rutherford acknowledged a deed to Joseph Rutherford, Jr., January 19, 1790 in Lincoln County, Kentucky.
Would like to learn more about this family especially of
Joseph's wife Sarah, their other children, Larkin Ramsey a neighbor his the name of the Hamilton to whom Margaret Hamilton was widowed.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
