I've heard the story many times in my youth. My father was present at all of the "activities." As he related the story, the actual hanging took place at Pound Gap above Jenkins. He also stated that during and after the lynching, several of the participants took turns shooting the victim -- he said there were shots to the hands and arms, feet, legs, knees, and other body parts.
To his dying day, he would never state who else was involved.
