Benjamin Craft & Jane (Adams) Craft

We are searching for additonal information and descendants of the children of Benjamin Craft & Jane (Adams) Craft. Their brief bio follows:

Benjamin Craft was born in 1826 at Pike County, Kentucky. Jane (Adams) Craft was born in 1829 at Paintsville, Letcher County, Kentucky.

Benjamin & Jane (Adams) Craft were married on April 11, 1847 at Paintsville, Letcher County, Kentucky. Nine (9) children were born of this union: Private Nehemiah Craft born in July 1848, died in August 1896, John Anderson Craft born on March 30, 1849, died on April 17, 1919, Phillip Craft born in 1852, Campbell Craft born in 1854, Sarah Craft born in 1856, Benjamin Craft Jr. born in 1858, James A. Craft born in 1859, Jason Craft born in 1862, Letta (Craft) Webb born in June 1865, and Nancy Craft born in 1869. All of the Craft children were born at Paintsville, Letcher County, Kentucky.

During the Civil War, Benjamin Craft served as a Private with Company 'B', 11th Kentucky Reserve Battalion. The battalion consisted of men at or near the initial enlistment age limit of forty-five. The assignment of the Regiment was to replace the Kentucky Home Guard units, which had been placed in active service.

Benjamin & Jane's son, Nehemiah Craft served as a Private with Company 'D', 13th Kentucky Cavalry during the Civil War. Sixty-four (64) other members of the Craft-Caudill Family Group served with the 13th Kentucky Cavalry including Private Jesse B. Adams who would become Nehemiah's friend and father in law, and Colonel Benjamin Caudill, Commander of the 13th Kentucky Cavalry.

Nehemia Craft married his first wife Emma Nancy (Adams) Craft on February 8, 1868 at Whitesburg, Letcher County, Kentucky; his second wife, Virginia Jinicel "Jane" (Prichard) Craft in September 1870. (MY LINE)

Benjamin & Jane's son, John Anderson Craft married his first wife, Mariah Jane (Webb) Craft, on April 13, 1872 at Letcher County, Kentucky. Mariah Jane (Webb) Craft was born on February 2, 1857. Six (6) children were born of their union: an unnamed infant born on July 16, 1874, died on July 19, 1874, Clarence "C.C." Clevington Craft born on January 4, 1876, died on March 13, 1969, Urias V. Craft born on February 24, 1878, died on November 11, 1917, Mattie Emaline Craft born on July 22, 1882, died as an infant on December 10, 1884, Ollie Lee Craft born on February 2, 1886, died as a child on January 29, 1897, and John Anderson Craft Jr. born on March 29, 1891, died on December 1, 1957.

John & Mariah's son, Clarence "C.C." Clevington Craft married Lelia (Sturm) Bunn-Craft on January 24, 1900. Lelia (Sturm) Bunn-Craft was born on June 19, 1883, died on March 13, 1969. Seven (7) children were born of their union: Herman Charles Craft born on January 22, 1902, died on June 21, 1951, John Floyd Craft born on January 29, 1904, died on May 23 1978, Juliet (Craft) Rowland born on January 31, 1907, died on May 3, 1972, Jane (Craft) Byrd-James born on April 8, 1911, died on November 3, 1968, Lelia Bunn (Craft) Hughes born on May 7, 1914, died in 1970, Clarence K. Craft born on March 24, 1919, died as a child in September 1922, and Jimmy R. Craft born on August 9, 1923, died in January 1965.

John & Mariah's son, Urias V. Craft married Mattie (Williams) Craft.

John & Mariah's son, John Anderson Craft Jr. married Eunice (Matthews) Craft.

Mariah Jane (Webb) Craft died of influenza on April 11, 1917 at Letcher County, Kentucky.

John Anderson Craft married his second wife, Rosanna May (Pigman) Adams-Craft, the daughter of William & Rebecca B. (Smith) Pigman about 1881 at Knott County, Kentucky. Four (4) known children were born of John & Rosanna's union: Leonard Craft born in 1881, died on June 10, 1921 at Pike County, Kentucky, Lanford Craft born on June 6, 1882, died on October 22, 1918 at Hattiesburg, Mississippi, John Harlan "Bob" Craft born on June 17, 1885, died on July 23, 1941 at Richmond, Indiana, and Letha (Craft) Gibson born in December 7, 1889, died on February 23, 1958, who on April 11, 1915 married Harrison Gibson.

Rosanna May (Pigman) Adams-Craft and her first husband, J. Wash Adams were the parents of Virgie Adams-Everage-Neace. Rosanna May (Pigman) Adams-Craft-Adkins-Neal's third husband was Henry Adkins; her fourth husband, Wesley Neal.

Benjamin & Jane's son, Campbell Craft married Nancy R. (Webb) Craft, who was born about 1857, in 1874.

Benjamin & Jane's son, Letta (Craft) married Enoch Milton Webb, the son of Edward T. & Betty Ann (Adams) Webb, on March 8, 1883. Seven (7) children were born of their union: Arthur Webb born in May 1883, Martha Webb born in September 1884, Bettie Webb born in February 1892, John M. Webb born in July 1893, James J. Webb born in February 1896, Sarah Webb born in August 1897, and Addison Webb born in February 1900.

Both Benjamin & Jane (Adams) Craft died and were buried at Paintsville, Letcher County, Kentucky.
