Hi Della,

If you already knew this, it won't be the first time I've made a fool of myself.
says Knott County was created in 1884 from sections of Perry, Breathitt, Floyd and Letcher counties.

the LDS 1880, has 200+ entries for Maxey/Maxie in Kentucky, but none in any of those four parent counties. That makes me suspect your kin moved into the area after 1880. If you know they were there before then, they may have
1) Spelled the name differently,
2) Lied to the enumerator,
3) Got an enumerator who couldn't spell,
4) None of the above, but something else to frustrate their descendants.

If they were there before 1884, their records will be in the parent county, not Knott.
