I picked up on your posting of 12-09-01 requesting information regarding Myrtle Brown of whom was the wife of Richard Fugate (my uncle). Richard and my Dad, James were brothers. I know little of Myrtle's parentage. As to her having a Cherokee blood line I would doubt it. Based on her physical appearance I should say not. The only Indian background of the Fugate's from around Knott & Perry County that I have ever heard of was those decedented from Levy and Haney. Haney was presumed to be of Cherokee ancestry.
Gabriel (Gabe) Fugate who was the brother of Richard (as mentioned above) had all the physical appearances of an Indian. Skin color, facial bone structure, etc all of which had the classic indian features.
You might e-mail a grandson of Richard & Myrtle by the name of Kevin. He is the son of L.D. (Lorenzo Dow) who was the son of Richard and Myrtle. His e-mail address is as follows: email@example.com. I would suggest however that they may be rather sensitive about Myrtle being illegitimate
by birth. So word your request accordingly.
Additionally and on another matter. Those chaps from the mountains, specifically from Knott & Perry county initially entered the Conferate Army with the 5th Kentucky. Banger Bill has a rather interesting background as a Prisoner of War at Point Lookout, Md POW camp. Would amplify should you be interested.
