Continuing......the family name is often spelled in the following ways: Smeltzer, Schmelzer, Schmeltzer, Smelcer, Smelzer ... these variations are the most common. Keziah Smelzer is thought to have been the daughter of Jacob Schmelzer b. abt 1760 (maybe Johan Jacob Schmelzer) and Ocea or Ocee Kershatt / Cushatt / Cashatt / Kurshat. Much of the Cushatt family moves to either Jasper County, Iowa or Selby County, Alabama. The Logsdon, Cushatt, and Smelser families all lived in Munfordville, Hart County, KY in the early 1800's. They are found in the 1820 Munfordville, Federal Census.
