The John Zinn who was taken by his uncle to live with George Zumwalt in Kentucky was captured by British & Indians in their attack on Ruddell's Fort (Ruddell's Station, Bourbon Co, KY) in 1780, when John was age 17. George Zumwalt had been conscripted to help build the Station.
Acc. to the publication Kentucky Ancestors, Winter 1990, Vol 25, No 3, pp 153-156, "Kentucky Ancestors in Pioneer Days - The Taking of Ruddle's Station, 1780, by John Zinn (contributed by Dr Roseann R Hogan of Lexington, KY), John Zinn was forced to Detroit and held there as a prisoner of war until 1783. In 1784 he made his way to Lexington, KY, and in 1785 back to Bourbon Co. He lived there until 1789, when he moved to Pendleton Co (now Grant Co).
Says Dr Hogan, "Born June 21, 1763, in Berks County, Pennsylvania, John Zinn came to Kentucky and married Elizabeth Kiser (1765-1844) in Pendleton County on August 10, 1795. He died in Grant County, Kentucky, on April 17, 1847. In his will, John named his sons Joseph, William and Hiram Zinn (married Zerelda Conyers); his daughters Rebecca (married James Taylor) and Sarah (married William Hazelwood); his grandson, John P Harrison (child of Mary Zinn, who predeceased her father); and his granddaughters Elizabeth Taylor and Harriett and Louisianna Hazelwood (will dated 21 June 1841; proved 10 May 1847; recorded 5 July 1847, Grant Co. Will Book C, pp 53-54)."

Now I'll appreciate information concerning any marriages or children (born in or out of wedlock) of Zinns and Zumwalts.
George Zumwalt named his granddaughter Mary Ann Zinn in his will. Above we see that John Zinn had a daughter Mary, who married a man named Harrison but preceded her father in death. The Mary Ann Zinn who inherited from George Zumwalt married a man named LEASURE. Doesn't sound as if these two Marys are the same.
Would like to know the connections and dates, including information about Mr LEASURE. Thank you.
