WE really need some help with the Helton/ Hilton/ Hylton DNA project. Farmer Helton agreed to send in a DNA sample and we are awaiting the results. He is one of the oldest Helton's that I know and still very active. He is in his eighties and has an aunt in her nineties. A shout out to Middlesboro KY and thanks to Farmer. Our line is Native American and we have one ancestor on a Cherokee Roll. Grandfather always said we had "more kinfolks than you could shake a stick at in Kentucky." My Uncle, Carl HElton Jr. was born in Leslie Co. in 1928, When my grandfather moved up to work in the mines. Carl Helton Sr. was born in 1893 Roane Co. TN. IN DNA testing we tested a line out of NC and they said the same thing. Aunt Sarah said, "when I was a little girl we walked to KY on the Railroad tracks to visit other Helton relatives. This was from Burke Co. She is in her eighties. Her line is Native American too. Her line is also the family of Ernest and Osey Helton who are recognized as some of the best transitional muscians of their time out of Asheville NC. (1920-40) Featured in the MT Music Hall of fame in Morganton NC. Newspaper article after articles recognized them as Irish and Cheorkee. Those of you who have finished your Helton, Hilton lines please keep helping us other Heltons with ours. We found five or six Heltons lines on the Guion Miller applications that claim Indian Bloodlines. I have put them on the Helton Family Gen Forum for you to read. http://genforum.genealogy.com/helton/ A cousin and I visited awhile back and met Herman Helton over in Leslie CO. Ky. He had the flattest two acres I saw back there. We didn't make it back to Marrowbone or Cut Shin but we knew we were close. Our DNA site shows about five or six lines coming into the United States. I want the Helton/Hilton's to know our heritage and be proud of it. We need your help. Post your lines and DNA test. The basic is 99.00.
