Devil Jim and William Turner, Jr.- Harlan Co

I have found 2 versions of the Devil Jim Turner story. Version 1: James 'Devil Jim' B. Turner, II, his brother William Turner, Jr. and Francis Pace were accused of killing William Middleton (a first cousin of Jim and William), on December 2, 1872 in Harlan Co, KY. All three were tried, found guilty, and William died in prison in 1877. Version 2: the same except William Turner, Jr. was implicated in the murder but was not tried and died in Harlan Co, KY in 1877. The trial was moved out of Harlan Co. to Manchester, Clay Co., KY and ran from June, 1873 to December 1874. Does anyone have access to the Clay Co. court records or know which version is correct?

Much Thanks.
