My grandmother in law was named Ethel Barney and lived in Greenup Co, Ky. as do a bunch of her family. I'd say she was born right after the turn of the 1900s. Greenupsburg is another county all together. Greenup was pretty rural at that time so I doubt if he found work as a professor unless it was across the river in Ohio or W.V.
