States: Kentucky: Greenup
The only ref in the greenup book states "Another type of boat on the river about 1825 was the storeboat coming from Pittsburgh loaded with mrchandise which called at settlements to sell and trade with people. Later as the china and glassware industry in Pittsburgh expanded, the Raike family, which lived a few miles below Greenup, built up quite a business. They brought floatboats loaded with china and glass down the river and traded these articles for the eager farmers wives for castoff products, such as scrap iron and rags. That is the only ref. to Raike family
