Harmon/Harman Family Settlement

George Harmon (b.c. 1760, VA) settled a large family in Adair Co. KY in 1806. At that time it appeared they had immigrated from Brunswick Co. VA, which appeared an extension of the New Kent Co. VA Harmon family. HOWEVER, a recent DNA test has the Adair Co. Harmon family linked to the German settlers of the Shenandoah Valley ca. 1750.

Recent research shows that Hans-Peter Harmon of the Shenandoah Valley group had settled his family first in Greene Co. TN and then further west in a four county area on the KY-TN border, along the south bank of the Cumberland River. That group tended to move back and forth between Wayne Co. KY, Clinton Co. KY, Overton Co. TN and Fentrees Co.TN.

If you have any information linking the Harmon/Harman families in either Adair Co. and Wayne Co. KY please contact me. Any data (even rumors) may help to guide the research on how the two Harmon settlements were tied together. Thanks.

Jim Harmon
