My Gowens ancestors lived in Gallatin County since about 1820. Charles Gowens (Goins) born 1763, Henry County, Virginia, served in Revolutionary War in 1779 and 1781. Married Elizabeth Blair abt 1795. Moved 1st to Harrison County, KY in 1797 where most of their children born: Galloway, James B., Nancy, John, Elizabeth, David, Sally, and Garrett. Other children may have been Mary, Lucinda, and Hannah. Galloway m. Betsy Rose in 1813, then later remarried. James m. Mary An Jackson 14 SEP 1835, then later to Lovisa Jackson on 13 JAN 1844. Nancy m. James Furnish, John m. Dorothy Furnish, David m. Nancy Swango, Sally m. Truman Kidwell.
My Jackson ancestors lived in Gallatin County since about 1810. George Jackson b. 1783 in Virginia married Susannah Ray on 11 NOV 1814 in Warsaw, KY. Their children were: Jacob, Mary Ann b. 11 DEC 1816, Joshua, Lovisa, David, and Leticia. Jacob m. Elizabeth ____, Mary Ann(died 1843)and Lovisa m. to James Gowens, and David m. Margaret ____.
Charles Gowens died sometime after 1855 in Gallatin County. I have found no record of his burial which is sad, being that he was a rev war soldier. His wife Elizabeth Gowens and James Gowens first wife Mary Ann are buried there too. I would assume that George and Susannah Jackson are buried there also. Hoping to find some trace of them.
My ancestor James B. Gowens moved his family to Iowa and then to Coleman, Texas where he died in 1898.
