Hi Jim,

I can only give you some ideas to answer your question of how the Francis Rivers Richardson and Sarah Magoffin MAY have met.

I believe that Francis R. Richardson's first cousin, Francis Rivers Singleton, graduated from law school in KY and ended up practicing in TX. It is possible that Francis R. Richardson went to college in KY as well.

Also, before the Richardson family left South Carolina (about April, 1810), they were successful merchants who were already familiar with traversing waterways in South Carolina.

According to Wikipedia, Beriah Magoffin, II, practiced law in Jackson, MS, but returned to KY because of health reasons. Francis R. and Sarah Magoffin Richardson's first son, Beriah Richardson (about 18 months old), is buried in the Richardson Cemetery in Wilkinson County, MS.

Do you know the port of entry for Beriah Magoffin, Sr?
