James:

One of my husband's lines is "Askins" -- Francis Marion Askins (went by Marion Askins) married a Mary E. Starling (seen it spelled Sterling sometimes), 15 Sept 1868, Perry Co., IN.

Going through the census, I have found 2 possibilities for her parents.

Jesse Sterling (b. KY) and Amanda (b. AR)
or
Lewis Sterling (b. Germany -- census taker might have misunderstood and he said German descent) and Polly (b. IN)

Both couples had a Mary born the right year (1852). Mary's records all claim her parents to be from Indiana, which would make the second couple the better choise.

There are quite a few Sterling/Starling members in the Perry Co., IN area.

Would you know any information on these folks?

Thanks, Linda Mullen
