Here is hoping that someone can assist me with the above. I am posting to all three surname sites.
In the winter of 1809 a number of Richardsons of Santee Hills, Sumter Co, SC migrated to Wilkinson Co, MS where they became very large land/slave owners. The Richardson patriarch at the time seems to have been Francis Richardson (1763 to 1820). His wife Martha dies in 1831 in Wilkinson Co. He has a number of children to include: John Gaulden, James B., William Arthur, Jared N., Wade H and Francis Rivers Richardson as well as a daughter, Susan, who marries Hiram Singleton, son of Richard Singleton of SC.
Beriah Magoffin (I), born ?? but most likely in 1760s, was a native of the County of Down, Ireland; a successful merchant, and was President of the Commonwealth Bank of Kentucky, at Harrodsburg, KY. His mother was of Scotch-Irish origin, a native of Kentucky, and daughter of Samuel McAfee, one of the early settlers from Virginia. This Beriah Magoffin (I) was the father of a number of children, most notably Beriah Magoffin (II), Civil War Governor of the state of KY.
Two John O Hamiltons, father and son. Do not know which one is the connection, but suspect it is John O (II). John O Hamilton (I) born about 1760?, dies 12, 1833 - 89 years, 3 months and 23 days. Moves to KY in abut 1796 after having lived for a time in MD and PA. Settled in Bracken Co, near Chatham.
John O. Hamilton (II), 1794-1883, was born in Sherman’s Valley, PA in 1794. As a young man was in the general merchandising business and made a number of trips to New Orleans by flatboat with return overland (Natchez Trace which begins in Natchez (or some say Fort Adams in Wilkinson Co, MS). Participated in the War of 1812 as a member of Capt. Baker's company of Mason County Volunteers. Later became a prominent (magistrate for 27 years, and one-time Sheriff) in Gallatin Co/Eagle Creek area.
The problem: In 1825, Francis R. Richardson, youngest son of Francis Richardson marries Sarah Magoffin in Mercer Co, KY (Harrodsburg). Does anyone know of any connection between these families? It seems very likely that Hamilton and Magoffin knew each other through business their connections as Harrodsburg is on the Kentucky River and it empties into the Ohio at Carrollton in what was once the county seat of Gallatin Co. Does anyone know of a connection between Wilkinson Co and the Magoffin family other than this marriage?
Thanks for any assistance,
