Smith and others from Warsaw to CA gold fields ca 1853

Joshua T. Smith (who m. Rhoda Baldwin Sparks in Gallatin Co KY ca 1851) supposedly went "with a group of Kentuckians" to the California gold fields early in 1853. He may have died in Feb 1854 while trying to return home, but this is all family tradition and I have no proof.

Does anybody else have ancestors who caught "gold fever" and went to California about that time from Warsaw, Gallatin Co KY?

Joshua was my 2nd great-grandfather and I know nothing else about him, or who his family was.
