According to THE HANDY BOOK FOR GENEALOGISTS (evey genealogist should have a copy)some records of births and deaths were kept in the 1850's. While it doesn't say so, some were also kept in the 1870's...about 1874-1878. These can be purchased on microfilm. After that, birth and death records were not kept again until 1911. Mary Louise
