It would be a good idea to get his death certificate and compare it with all of the census records in 1900, 1910, 1920, and 1930 which should tell his age. You could also do a comparison with the earlier census records like 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880.
Check his DRAFT card for World War I. He shouldn't have lied to the Draft Board.
