William Carpenter m. Mary Jones

I am confused about when William Carpenter who married Mary Jones died. On Worldconnect several people show William Carpenter son of John R. Carpenter and Rachel Hinton b. 1806 m. Mary Jones in 1822 had 5 sons. According to the census records for Fleming county in 1830 and 1840 William Carpenter with only sons in the family was 30 to 40 in 1830 and 40 to 50 in 1840. So born between 1790/1800 not 1806. Did he die after 1880 and after he married Sarah (McKee) Hartley widow of Abel Hartley in 1858 and father 5 more children? Or are their two William Carpenters up above Wallingford about the same age? The Hartley children end up living with relatives of William Carpenter son of John and Rachel. Does this sound right or does someone have evidence of two different William Carpenters?
Thanks for any help you can shed on this.
