Hello, everyone. It is very rare that i make requests like this, but a situation has come up in Fleming County that is important to ALL genealogists connected with this county.
As you may know, Fleming County is one of the very few counties to employ a Courthouse Genealogist, someone to whom we can all write for help with our searches. Ms. Caren Prater has been the Fleming County's Courthouse Genealogist for almost 33 years. However, the "powers that be" are trying to terminate her position. Ms. Prater must plead her case next Tuesday, April 17.
There is something we ALL can do to help her, and that is to write a letter to those "powers that be" to request that her position be continued. Please let them know that Ms. Prater is a very precious resource not only for genealogists, but for the history of Fleming County!
The letter should be to the Fleming County Fiscal Court which consists of Judge Executive Larry Foxworthy, and the following magistrates: Doug Bowling, David Deatley, Kenneth Souder, Larry Dearing, Stevie Call & Allen Argo. The address is 201 Court Square, Flemingsburg, KY 41041.
Unfortunately, I do not have e-mail addresses, but a typed or hand-written letter takes only a few minutes. Also, time is of the essence, so I am asking you to send your letters of support as soon as possible.
