I am searching for information regarding William Royse of Fleming County, KY. William was born about 1810 in Kentucky. He was married on Feb 26th, 1832 to Rebbeca Royse (born 1815), the daughter of Aaron Royse In Fleming County, Kentucky. It would appear that William and Rebbeca were cousins. Based on census records and other documents, we believe that we can trace Rebbeca Royse's family tree back to the Robert Royse family of New Endland (see below). However, we have been unable to find any record of William Royse's parents.
Based on various Genealogy Records, we have concluded that Aaron Royse, Rebbeca's father, was born in 1790 in Pennsylvania (the portion that is now Preston county, West Virginia) and that his parents were Moses Royse and Rebbeca Stonebridge Royse. Moses was the oldest son of Aaron Royse Sr. The lineage of this Aaron Royse is disscussed in the book entitled "Frederick Royse-Militiaman" written by Chelsea Dinn.
We believe that our William Royse is the same one described in Fleming County Circuit Court Case #4209 of September 1827 (date of incident was Jan 4, 1827) where William and Elijah Royse (possibly a cousin or brother) were charged with stealing two hogs from James Tinsley. A Frederick Royse (along with several others) was called as a witness for the defense, but his relationship to the others is unknown, and his testimony is not included in the case records. We have only had access to what was posted on the internet, so we do not have any record of the outcome of the trial, (It appears to have been dropped by the commonwealth entering a noble prosequi - Fleming Co Circuit Court Order Book K, Sept 1, 1827) however we do have a record of both our William Royse and also an Elijah Royse appearing in Fleming Co in the 1850 census, residing near each other. They were also listed as William Rice and Elijah Rice in the 1840 census.
Any help in locating the parents of William Royse would be greatly appreciated. Please contact me at: firstname.lastname@example.org
