Morrow of KY

My Morrows were in PA by 1750 or before. It is possible that some Morrows were actually Murrays. Spoken with a Scottish dialect Morrow and Murray sound the same. There was an Irish King Dermot McMurrough. I have also heard Moray and O'More. Tradition has it that Thomas Morrow was in the French and Indian War and drowned trying to cross the Sesquahannah River. Tradition further suggests that Thomas had sons William, John and Charles probably born in Lancaster Co PA. Col John Morrow and Lt Charles Morrow lived in Shepherdstown VA, now WVA and were involved in James Rumsey's Steam Boat project on the Potomac River. COL John Morrow later migrated to KY.
William Morrow was probably born in or near Lancaster PA. He married Barbara Zantzinger dau of Hans Paulus Zantzinger who came from the the Rheinland Pfalz (The Palatinate) in German to Philadelphia in 1732 and later moved to Lancaster. Willian and Barbara lived in Chambersburg and later Pittsburg where they ran the Sign of the Green Tree Inn. Barbara Zantzinger had a sister Mary, and brothers Paul John Paul II, and Adam Zantzinger. Paul was a very wealthy businessman in Lancaster, was married twice and raised a large family and have many descendants around the country today. Paul Zantzinger did not as some have claimed have a daughter Ann Zantzinger who married Thomas Morrow. Adam Zantzinger and his wife Susannah Keppele died apparently without children about 1796. William Morrow and Barbara Zantzinger had children Paul Morrow, Thomas Morrow, Mary (Molly) Morrow, Nancy Morrow, and Alexander S. Morrow. Paul Morrow married and is well documented, having a fair number of notable descendants including the founder of the Jones and Laughlan Steel Mills. About Thomas Morrow little is known. It is possible that he went to KY as there is a deed executed between a Thomas Morrow and Alexander S Morrow in Mercer County KY and with Wilson P. Boyd of Flemingsburg, Alexander's brother in law. Mary (Molly) Morrow married John McDonald of Pittsburg, a lawyer and businessman. They appear to have had at least two children, a daughter and a son Zantzinger McDonald a prominent, if controversial, newspaper publisher in Pittsburg. Nancy Morrow married James Crossan who with his two sons operated various hotels and businesses in Pittsburg. James may have come from the Wilmington Delaware area. Alexander S. Morrow (the middle initial may stand for Speer for his cousin Alexander Morrow Speer) went to a private Episcopal school in Pittsburg although the family were Presbyterians, member of the first Presbyterian Church of Pittsburg. He served a stint in the militia during the War of 1812 (1812-1815) and migrated to Paris, Bourbon County, KY where in 1815 he married Margaret Boyd dau of Samuel Boyd and Rachel Wilson. Probably five of his six children were born in Paris KY, William S. Morrow, Wilson Boyd Morrow, Ann Eliza Morrow, Mary Jane Morrow, Alexander S. Morrow Jr and then Thomas Zantzinger Morrow who was born in 1835/36 in Flemingsburg, Fleming County KY . William and Wilson Boyd Morrow after the Civil War lived in Weakley County TN where William was killed in 1870 in a saw mill accident. Wilson Boyd Morrow married his widow. About Ann Eliza Morrow we know nothing except that Thomas Z Morrow says she was still living in 1887/88. Mary Jane married a Hoyt or Hayt and died leaving a daughter Mary Jane. Alexander S. Jr lived in Harrosburg KY and died about 1865. Thomas Zantzinger Morrow lived in Somerset, Pulaski Co, KY, served for nine months in the Civil War as LTCOL 32nd KY Vol. Infantry. He was Judge of the 8th Judicial Circuit. He married Virginia Catherine Bradley sister of KY Governor William O'Connell Bradley and had children: Margaret Morrow( died in infancy) William A. Morrow(Lawyer), Robert Bradley Morrow (Pharmicist), Mary Crossan Morrow, Thomas Zantzinger Morrow Jr,Lawyer, Samuel Scott Morrow Railroad Detective, Wilson Boyd Morrow II Lawyer and Judge, US Commissioner, Charles Haskell Morrow Colonel US Army Sp Amer War, WWI, Boxer Rebellion, Philipine Insurrection, Siberian Expedition Russian Civil War, and Edwin Porch Morrow Lawyer, US Railroad Board, Governor of KY. Governor Edwin P Morrow's great grand son Edwin P III is in the Morrow DNA project and is my 2nd Cou 1R since Judge Wilson Boyd Morrow II is my grandfather.

I have not yet found a link with my above family and any other Morrow line. Hopefully the DNA project will fix that.
