Nancy,
My Greenberry Griffin was married to Nancy Stone, daughter of Spilsby Stone and Elizabeth Bland in 1805 in Nelson Co Ky. He and his wife had 8 children. We were told by older family members that he was born In Md in 1774 or 1775, was of a large family, moved to Ky in the 1790's, could have been married in Md before he left, and possibly had children with this woman. He is found on the tax rolls of Nelson Co Ky in 1800. he moved to Daviess Co Ky in the late 1810's as he is on the Daviess Co tax rolls in 1820,1830,1840. His wife is on them there in the 1850's and 1860's.

He died 12 Apr 1847 in Daviess Co Ky and is buried there at Pleasant Grove Cem along with his wife and some of the children. She died 20 Sep 1863.

My grandfather said the name had been GRIFFIN for as far back as he knew, however some told he was Greenberry Griffeith Jr in Md. I am not sure of this.

It is unclear as to why he came to Ky from Md as we believe he was a Methodist as he was buried in a Methodist Church Cem. He was known to have been a schoolteacher and an administrator of several wills both in Nelson Co and Daviess Co Ky.

There was a Greenberry Griffith in Daviess Co Ky the same time as he was, but they were unrelated. I have found several Greenberry Griffiths. My Greenberry bought land in Daviess Co Ky from a William Griffith a large landowner in the Co of Daviess. Where he got the land is unclear.

Rodney
