owensboro McFarland and Crabtree

In researching the Owensboro map for my nephew's upcoming trip for the Little League Nationals, I noticed a McFarland Ave. that intersects Crabtree Ave. Since these streets are probably named after people, I decided this is worth a try.

My great grandfather, Richard Crabtree McFarland was taken in by the Atkinson family in Fentress Co., Tn. before 1850, he was born @ 1839 but we do not know who his parents were or where he was born. I think it is possible that Rebecca Atkinson was a Crabtree and Richard was related to her.

Maybe someone who knows the history of Davies county could give me some info on the Crabtrees and McFarlands around Owensboro in the 1800's. Maybe this is where Richard was originally from. You may answer on this forum or directly at I would appreciate any tidbit.

Thank you very much.

Richard Crabtree McFarland [Catherine Curtis]
unknown but possibly James McFarland or son of James McFarland
