Hello Michael, do you have any information about additional children of James Gough and Dorothy Nevitt?
My gg-grandfather was Mathias Goff/Gough, born in 1829 in Kentucky (can't confirm where). I believe he is a son of James Gough and Dorothy Nevitt. On census records, he's sometimes listed as Mathew, Matthew or Mathias, sometimes Gough and sometimes Goff. I found his 1918 death certificate in Daviess County, KY, which is signed by my grandfather Sidney Mathias Goff. It states that Mathias' father's name was "James Goff" and his mother's name was "Mrs. Nevitt". I found the 1814 marriage record and associated forum discussions for James Gough and Dorothy Nevitt in Nelson County, KY, but I haven't found any other information to confirm this connection. I noticed multiple "Mathias" and "Sydney" names in your
I also found a 22-year-old "Mathew Gough" in the 1850 census living with Sarah Gough and family in Spencer County, KY. I'm thinking Mathew could have been a nephew, rather than a son. Mathias Gough first shows up as head of his own household in Daviess County in 1860. I'm guessing maybe he was born in Daviess County, worked on his relatives' farm in Spencer County in his early 20's, then returned to Daviess County to establish his own family.
If you have any additional information, I would greatly appreciate it!
