Sorry, I can not find much on your James Thompson. He did marry Maggie Scherer on 11/30/1889, surety T.M. Gates bk X page 495 Daviess co., KY. You can get this marriage certificate sent to you from the "Kentucky Room" at the Daviess Co. Public library; http://www.dcplibrary.org/ . It 'MIGHT" list a mother & father. Also it looks like Maggie Scherer was from Newburgh Indiana. Also her second husband Ferdinand F. Koch (Cook) died in Newburgh Indiana. On 7/24/1944 see http://browning.evcpl.lib.in.us/ for funeral card. I found a Obit index that lists a "John" Thompson in Newburgh In, Warrick Co. Could? Your man may be some version of John James Thompson or James John Thompson. He died on 8/5/1894 of heart disease which would be logical for Maggie to remarry in 1895. Do you have a year of birth for your James Thompson? There are so many of them in the 1880 census index I can't decide which may be yours.
