I could never thank you and Lt. Garnett Downer's mother for this heroic man's life giving service to our country information. My fifteen year search has been rewarded indeed, but I surely wish he could have come home to his family. I will never forget and will tell my children, grand children, and great grand children of what this man did for them and their country.
Do you know who he married?
I joined the U.S. Navy in June 1940 and had been in service 18 months when Pearl Harbor was bombed. I left the navy in 1948 and entered Ole Miss. During the war I attended Officer training school at Harvard and accumulated enough credit I was able to graduate from University of Mississippi Pharmacy college in two years.
Is there anyway I could contack Mrs. Gail McCullough?
