It was typical in the early 1800s for the farm owners to be buried someplace on their farms, usually on the crest of a hill in a grove of trees. Not all graves were marked with a tombstone. Sometimes they just turned a rock on it's edge to mark the head of the grave, usually determined by how much money was left to be inherited.
