McLain-Ellison House

My cousin owns what is now known as the McLain-Ellison stone house just inside the Claiborne County line. He thinks it was built by Thomas McLain in the 1790s but I've seen other references that McLain built it in the 1806-1808 timeframe. Can anyone point me to where I can determine when this house was built? It's the third oldest house in Tennessee and on The National Register of Historic Places.
