Mary's husband SAMUEL WATKINS sold several of the slaves in Gallatin Co., IL. Samuel Watkins was in manufacturing at the U S Salines and died there in 1823. His wife, farm and children were in Caldwell Co., KY. Trying to get the family slaves back involved a lenthy court battle. In 1823 WILLIAM ROACH was called into Caldwell Circuit Court to testify on behalf of MARY. Wm. ROACH is in the 1790 census of Rockingham, N.C. Harris BRIDGES was summoned in 1823 to the Caldwell Circuit Court to testify on behalf of MARY.
John Watkins, Thomas Watkins of Rutherford Co., TN. in 1823 state in their deposition That they were living in Franklin Co., KY.in 1795 when Samuel Watkins and his wife came and moved to within a mile of where they lived. Samuel and Mary Watkins had several slaves with them and they were a gift from Mary's grandfather Aron Williams.
Also of Rutherford Co., TN Susan Hutton was to testify for Mary Watkins. I believe this are sibling to Samuel.
