"old Pat" Fowler;Caldwell Co 1872-74 ??

Have been searching for family of this man for about 11 years. Patent Fowler was on a delinquent tax list of 1874 in Caldwell Co.
Perhaps his name was Patton or Patten Fowler?? I have been told that he was born in Tennessee, but he was in Caldwell Co. in the early 1870's as his son, George met his 'to be' wife there. George & his wife's family, the Peter Richards family left to go to Arkansas about 1876. His dad, called "old Pat" , and the rest of the family have sure escaped me. George had 1 sister, Lena, who also came to Arkansas (Van Buren in Crawford Co.) and married there in 1891. Another son of Pat Fowler was named John. John apparently was a little bit on the mean side, made whiskey, etc. and was in trouble with the law - The story is that he killed 2 U.S. Marshals in a shoot out when they came after him for killing another man.
Does that sound familiar to anyone ? ? I hope so. This story surely would have been in newspapers, but, since I don't know where he was when all that happened, I don't know which papers to look in. I have looked at a few papers' but nothing yet, & hope that just maybe someone else has read that story or heard it.

Any FOWLER relatives who might know my family ?? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks, Johnny
