Yes!Do youhave a copy of "Our Qualey Heritage" by Carol Peterson Herreid? This very informative and entertaining book was published about 1965, and is formatted into four chapters: one each for Kari, and her brothers Baard, Ole, and (my great-grandfather) Per.This book would take you back to the parents of this group of siblings. The first time I saw the book, was when I signed it out from the library in Sogndal, Norway during a side-trip via London from a Navy transfer from Turkey to Washington DC- I sat in our relatives' house (Kvale, with a single dot over the 'a') and gazed at a photo of the house I was raised in, with my father, his father & his father among the group posing in front.I had the pleasure of meeting the author recently, and she kindly presented me with the family tree which was sponsored by the Norwegian government (which wanted all families to have their family trees documented). This family tree is easily connected to the time our descendants left Norway, and goes back to 1090.
Yes, 1090!I am currently in the process of entering it in the "Family Tree Maker" computer program, so it can easily be sent via e-mail, and it can be easily massaged to provide print-outs from any person onward, or can easily tell you what your relation is to a certain person (instead of trying to manually calculate how many "greats" you are removed from someone).
It is rather ironic, that the Stenehjems and Qualeys were neighbors in Sogndal, Norway - and again in my original home near Spring Grove, Minnesota (actually I was in Wilmington Township, but there was no "town" of Wilmington so we considered ourselves to be from Spring Grove). The Stenehjems were just over the hill from us.
My grandfather, Andrew (originally Andreas) started a hardware store in Kindred in the 1880's - married in Casselton in 1887 and soon after returned to Spring Grove to purchase the family farm (where I was raised).
Are you still in this (Fargo) area?
Sincerely
Arne
