I have emailed to Rob but am very interested in corresponding about Kunkel family - to support Kalis being last name I found a maiden name on child birth cert of Oswald, with info being given presumably by Oswald/Oscar, listing his mother's maiden name being Mathilde Collis. Also Bertha, sister who came over the Karl and Natalie married Gus Muhlenhaupt and first child was named Gus Adoph Hermann Muhlehaupt, a naming tradition that may have used father's names for first born - (just speculation here but why would Mathlilde Collis show up at all). hope to hear back from you all - Norm and Art Kunkel, both in their 80s are sure Karl (their g-pa), Oswald/Oscar and Robert are all brothers from Bellwood as they remember growing up. Here is a list of the family as I I know:

CHILDREN: 9 children, 7 alive in 1910 (per 1910 Census Mathilde):1) Emelia (once ‘Amelia’) Kunkel married Edward Kreiger; 2) Charles Leopold “Karl/Carl” Kunkel, m.May 27,1889 Natalie Lulaj “Lulay”, Left ‘Sgesh’, (Zgiers,Poland) to come to the United States, arrived in Baltimore, Maryland on June 30, 1892. Natalie brother Emil Lulaj arrive 1902; 3) Bertha Kunkel m. Gustav Muhlehhauplt; 4) Julius Kunkel,(Never left Lodz, Poland); 5) Robert Kunkel, m. 1903 Alma Breusa, Came to U.S. in August 1912, he is listed as a Cigar maker; 6) Oswald "Oscar" Kunkel, m. Jan. 27, 1906 Paulina Born, Came to U.S. November 1902.
