Natalie's last name was Lulay, according to my husband's mother. I know almost nothing about her family. As for Matilda, her "Kalis" last name and supposed marriage to Adolph Kunkel is based only upon a single death certificate record, William Krueger's mother Emilia. The information on her certificate was given by her second husband, August Nendze, so it would be dependent upon him knowing that information and him being 100% accurate to determine how correct it all is. I have the certificate and can send you a copy.
They are all buried in Oakridge, many of them do not have headstones. I have the index card that a volunteer wrote out for me showing all the people buried without headstones and the dates of burial . They're all together in that same section, along with a few that do have headstones-- Karl Kunkel/Natalie Lulay (along with a Baby Gertrude) are on one stone, Oswald and Pauline Kunkel are on an adjacent stone. I have pictures of both I can send you.
Matilda was definitely Emilia's mother (and William's Grandmother), as she was listed on the ship records coming over that way, and she's listed in a census entry as living with Emilia and her second husband (August Nendze) and William Krueger (listed as a stepson) in 1910. So that piece I know is pretty much 100% accurate. The big question marks are her supposed Adolph Kunkel marriage and her supposed maiden name of Kalis-- all I have to base it on is that one death record. Since Matilda came here alone, I can only assume she was widowed at that point, and the rest of the records about her past would be in what is technically now Poland (back then it was Germany at one point, Russia at another point, and eventually Poland -- I think the borders were changing so much in that area it was tough to keep track. I know in one census entry, people were listed as "Russian-German" whatever the heck that means...)
All of our research is up on Ancestry and I am happy to share. What relation are Karl and Natalie to you?
