Per Grandmothers notes, they came from Germany in the 1860s to St. Louis, MO. Per 1870 census Phillip from Hesse Darmstandt and Mary from Austria. Next census in 1880 says both from Hesse Darm. Phillip born around 1833 and showing laborer and musician, and Mary around 1836. They had ten children. The only children showing on the 1870 census is Robert, born in 1869 in MO-not showing on 1880 census. Other known children were Lizzie,b.1861, in Hesse Darm.,Charles b.1867 in MO (showed working in shoe factory at age 13),Jacob b.1870 in MO,Louisia b.1874 in MO, Lena,b.1879 in MO. Wonder if the children born prior to coming to US came over later,ie Lizzie, and any born from 1861 to 1867. Usually would have children named after the parents.
There was a Robert b. 1878, with parents born in MO showing on the 1880 census with both parents born in MO. Possibly child of one of the older children??
In the 1880 census the family next door was RENZ,CHRISTIAN(73)AND MARY(73)with daughter Christina (39) from Hesse Darm. and the right age to be her Mary Kuhls parents. Possibility.
