The only Sophie/Sophia that I show does not match up with the dates on that article. I have a Dorothea Sophie Marie Kuhlman that first married my Great great grandpa, Diedrich Kuker. He died in 1849 and she remarried later to Heinrich Friedrich Hoffmeyer. They did not settle in the states, but stayed in Germany. The other Sophie is Karoline Sophie Louise Brase who married my great grandfather, Diedrich Heinrich Friedrich Kuker and she died in 1899. They were the first Kuecker's from my family history to arrive in the US and they did not arrive until 1894. The 'rumor' that we found was that the Kuker name was changed to Kueker to avoid the umlaut over the 'u'. "Allegedly" my great grandfather added a 'c' to avoid confusion with the other families. Of course, we cannot confirm this, and it's only a rumor. Hope this has helped!
