Hi Marilynn..
I am trying to sort out everything that you sent to me.
My mother-in-law, who died of diabetes complications
in July of 1968, was Pauline Agatha Kubiak (Sigler).
She was born in February of 1900.Her sisters were
Helen (the oldest), Hattie and Gertrude.Gertrude
married a man named Podgorski and they moved to Lake
Forest, IL.Gert died of colon cancer some years
after Pauline died.Pauline lost her mother, whose
name was Anna Jos, when she was 11 years old.A few
years later her father, Martin Kubiak Sr., married
a woman whose name, I thought, was Agatha, but I could
be wrong about that.
I have been trying to do my husband's genealogy, and
I have had great success with his father's side of
the family, although one of his grandmothers, Paulina
Larsen (Sigler) was born and reared in Stubbekoebing,
Denmark, so I had some difficulty there since everything
was written in Danish, but I did get some information
from his father's sister, Margaret, before she died.
Now I am trying to do Pauline Kubiak Sigler's side,
and it has been difficult since her sisters are all
dead now, and her half-brother Martin has also died.
The last time anyone from our line talked to Uncle
Martin, he was very sad that his son was dying, also
of cancer.I am beginning to think that owning a
paint store caused that branch of the family to have
a lot of cancer, and perhaps it was the lead that
used to be used in the paint that caused it.
I have heard your family name before, from my husband.
He said some relatives by that name visited his home
in Englewood, Colorado, ouside of Denver, when he
was young. He was not sure how the relatives figured
into the family, but now I am beginning to understand.
We have no clue as to where Martin Kubiak Sr. was
born, but we do know that when he was born Poland
had temporarily been swallowed up by Germany and
Russia, so it did not exist as a country. We are
sure that my husband's grandfather Martin was born
in Prussia, so he would have been a Prussian by
birth, but of Polish extraction. My husband
graduated from West Point or the US Military Academy,
so we lived three years in Germany, and I did learn
to speak enough German to get buy, but reading the
records is something else.I think I would need
help for that.I am now a subscriber to immigration
records, so perhaps that will help me locate where
Martin Sr. came from.
We have three children: James Jr., Cyntha Jean and
Robert Scott. We now have three grandchildren:
Patrick Thomas Sigler (will be 2 January 11th,
Charles Emerson Sigler (will be 2 January 27th,
and a new little grandson named Joseph Robert Sigler,
who was born on November 2 of this year. Our daughter
is expecting twins, a boy and a girl, in January.
My husband has one brother named William Robert Sigler
of Englewood, Colorado, and he has one child named
Bill Jr.Bill and his wife Jody have a son William III
who is four and a daughter, Carissa, who is 1 1/2.
If you meet any other family members on that side,
please tell them about us.
You can also reach me by our E-Mail adress.
Regards,
Marilyn
