I find Edward H. Carr, age 26, born January 1874 in Illinois, living in Valverde township, Sumner Co., Kansas in the 1900 census. He is single, living as a boarder in the home of James Turpin(?), occupation Fireman Railroad.
Perhaps you could scan the 1900 census of Valverde township page by page and see if the othere members of the family have been indexed incorrectly. Heritage Quest online has the images available for viewing.
Also, if you could post the information you found on the 1885 Kansas index (ages, where and when born, etc.) it would be easier to try to track the family members.
