Mary Roberta (Grant) Monroe-Emery died Sunday of natural causes. She was 84.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 21 at Redmond Christian Church.
Mrs. Monroe-Emery was born Oct. 8, 1921, on a family farm in Culver to Mason and Bessie (Robinson) Grant. She graduated as valedictorian of Culver High School in 1940. She married Herman Monroe in 1940, and she later married Elmer Emery in 1995.
Mrs. Monroe-Emery was a homemaker, newspaper reporter, businesswoman and a government employee. She was a member of the Culver and Redmond Christian churches, the Culver Garden Club, Order of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the American Revolution. She grew up on a farm homesteaded by her parents in Jefferson County. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, needlework and genealogy.
Survivors include four sons, Fred Monroe, of Roanoke, Va., John Monroe, of Prescott, Ariz., Jim Monroe, of Redmond, and Ron Monroe of South Setauket, N.Y.; a daughter, Carole Mathey, of Portland; a sister, Elsie Nance, of Helena, Mont.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Autumn Funerals of Redmond is in charge of arrangements.
