Deceased Name: Luise Thauer Elliott
Luise Thauer Elliott, 82, Topeka, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at a Topeka nursing home.
She was born Jan. 5, 1921, in Kitzinten, Germany, the daughter of Hans Thauer and Eva Dollgast Thauer. She moved to Kansas 50 years ago. All of Mrs. Elliott's schooling was in the Kitzinten schools.
In early life, she married a German man who was lost in World War II. She worked in a winery and a shoe factory serving as paymaster.
In 1949, she met Henry V. Elliott, who was serving as administrator of the American School for Army children at Kaiserslautern. They were married in 1954, and returned to Eureka, Kan., where they made their home until moving to Topeka in 1969. Henry preceded her in death in 2003. Mrs. Elliott worked for several years for the Eureka Federal Savings and Loan Association.
Survivors include two nephews, Robert Hartmann, Kitzinten, Germany, and Manfred Thauer, Munich, Germany.
Graveside services and burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Greenwood Eureka Cemetery in Eureka. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Newcomer Family Funeral Home in Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to Heart of America Hospice, 3715 S.W. 29th, Topeka, 66614.
