While I was at the Topeka Public Library, I looked up the surname Gilfillan in its several permutations. As you may know, they have an obituary card file. This is their blurb about it: "This database contains obituary information from Topeka newspapers from 1906-1935 and from January 1, 2004-present. A small number of obituaries from 1936-2003 have been indexed and we are slowly working toward filling in this gap. The Library has a card index that contains obituary information from June 1971-May 2005. This card index will no longer be kept current as we move to an entirely electronic format."
I did not find Charles or William. The only other Gilfillan was a John, whose obituary appeared in the Topeka Capital Journal on November 16, 2000.
I was also researching at the Kansas State Historical Society library, and took a look in their card file. The principal players were not found, although they do have several general publications about the Gilfillan family, not necessarily in Kansas.
If you'd like, I can call Mount Hope Cemetery and get the location of Emma's grave and drive over there to see if any other family members are buried with her. Let me know if that's something you'd like to pursue.
