Hotel in Topeka in 1880's help please

Is there anyone out there who know of a hotel in Topeka called Tafft or Lefft - I can't make it out on the 1880 census? An uncle of mine J. J. Burtis (John J.) was the proprietor at that time. Any help on the name or on John J. Burtis would be so appreciated. I lost him when he left Davenport, IA (Burtis Hotel, Burtis Opera House). Someone just sent me a clipping that mentioned he moved to Topeka.

Thanks so much.
