I doubt very much that Mary Kemper Obenchain (b. 20 Sep 1804 Botetourt Co., VA, d. 22 Sep 1886 Bellefontaine, OH) was the mother of Vandiver. She was the 2nd wife of George Obenchain (b. 1803 Botetourt Co., VA, d. 17 Apr 1851 Logan Co., OH). Geo. m. twin sisters. He married 1st Polly Camper. However, the Clerk assumed that Polly was a nickname for Mary and put her name as Mary on marriage record. When Polly died, George turned around and m. her twin sister Mary Camper in 1834. In 1840 Census George is listed with 1 male under 5 yrs. which was most probably son William (b. 1838). So Vandiver (b. 1836) could not be his son. I can't determine who is his father and I have been working on the family for over 50 yrs. See my web site at:
