Belfield, now a ghost town, was located in
Sec 14, Pioneer twp., Rush Co, KS on Walnut
Creek. It was settled in 1872 and had a PO
from Feb 1874 to Oct 1887. Alfred Belfield
was the Postmaster as well as Probate Judge.
He was the great-grandfather of Hugh Milburn
Stone, actor, who was best known for his role
of "Doc Adams" in GUNSMOKE, a TV western.
The Belfield Cemetery had ten marked graves,
catalogued by David Jefferis and is on film
in the LDS repository. Among the ten are
MARR, Rhoda A, died 23 Dec 1884, age 24
MARR, John R, died 4 Apr 1877, no age given
Any additions or corrections appreciated and
hope this is of help to you. Erik Conard
