Obituary from the Olsburg (Kansas) Gazette, Friday November 8, 1901, p. 8:
Mrs. J. W. TIDLER.
Harriet L. Allen was born April 8, 1846; died Nov. 1, 1901, aged 55 years, 6 months and 23 days. She was married to J[ohn] W[illiam] Tidler Jan. 28, 1870 [this should be January 24, 1870, Jackson Co., KS]. To them were born seven children, six of whom are living; they, with the husband and two brothers mourn the loss of a dear mother, wife, and sister. Five of the children, the husband and one brother were present at the funeral. A large concourse of neighbors and friends gathered at the Spring Creek school house to pay the last tribute of love and esteem for the deceased friend and to mourn with the family their loss. Mrs. Tidler united with the M. E. church when quite young. She knew how to trust in God and lean upon his promises. Just before the end came she was perfectly resigned to the inevitable will of God, and died in the full fruition of faith. After the funeral services, which were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Ewan, the mortal remains were interred in the beautiful cemetery near the school house [Spring Creek Cemetery, Fostoria, KS]."
