Early Newspapers of Nemaha County

Can anyone provide information about the early newspapers in Nemaha, especially in the Sabetha area? Do you know if there were papers in that area in 1889?
Our ggggrandmother, Mary Elizabeth Stocker Love, died in Sabetha on April 26, 1889. If there was a newspaper, there might have been an obituary or at least a death notice published. She is buried in the Sabetha Cemetery where she shares a headstone with her son-in-law, Joseph Allbee.
I am also wondering if there are any descendants of either of these people in that area.
If there was not a newspaper at that time, what is the name and address of the county clerk where I might find death records? Or is that sort of record kept by the state and not the county? As you see, I have lots of questions...very few answers.
