This is only a guess, but I bet your family came from Meigs County, Ohio. There was a massive migration of Meigs Countians to Council Grove. SWAN is a common name in Long Bottom, Meigs County, Ohio. One of the early ones was a Marvin SWAN. Since your family is using that name too, that leads me to think all the more that Meigs County is your source.
