CARTER DIES Body to Arrive This Evening On the Frisco from Wichita Mrs. Margaret Carter, 416 East Second street, died yesterday at St. Francis hospital in Wichita. She was the wife of J. G. Carter. Other details have not been learned. The body will arrive this evening on the Frisco and will be taken to the McDaniel funeral home. A daughter and Vern Hutto will arrive today from Wichita. Friday October 6, 1944, page 1: CARTER SERVICES SUNDAY Local Resident for 25 Years Dies at Wichita Wednesday At 2:30 o’clock Sunday afternoon at the local Baptist church, Rev. Elbert Menge of Romona, Okla., will conduct funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Carter, who died Wednesday afternoon at 12:40 o’clock in the St. Francis hospital at Wichita. Mrs. Carter went to Wichita two weeks ago to visit her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Hutto, and became ill Saturday. On Monday she was taken to the hospital. Margaret Hodges was born December 18, 1864 at Springfield, Mo., to Mr. and Mrs. John Hodges. She had been a resident of Cherryvale for the past 25 years. Her husband, J. G. Carter, died in Cherryvale in 1929. Surviving are her children, Mrs. Vern Hutto of Wichita, Mrs. Berry Looper of Coffeyville, Mrs. Albert Hamilton, Jim Carter and Nathan Carter of Los Angeles, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The body will lie in state at the McDaniel funeral home until shortly before the services. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery by the McDaniel funeral service. Mrs. Berry Looper of Coffeyville, and Mr. and Mrs. Vern Hutto have arrived in Cherryvale, and Mrs. Albert Hamilton is expected to arrive tonight from Los Angeles.
